SSFC offers several opportunities for youth players to maintain access to playing opportunities during the off-season...
1) Participation in local indoor leagues (additional player fees may apply)
2) The SSFC Grassroots-partnered Elite Footballers Tournament (EFT): A 6v6 indoor tournament that offers scholarships to players of all backgrounds looking to play at the next level.
3) SSFC group training, led by coach Nick McDonald and college players from the Sunflower State FC USL 2 roster.
4) Private training with coach Trevor Cissell, former NCAA player with UMKC and Rockhurst.
5) Future Footballers Camp led by Serie A experienced coach Mirko Trapletti
The Sunflower State FC Grassroots Program is led by ex-Kansas City Comets professional soccer player Nick McDonald. He is going on his fifth year as the head coach of the Sunflower State FC semi-professional men's team.
Previously, Nick spent five years as an assistant coach at Rockhurst University. As an assistant, Rockhurst University made it to three straight NCAA tournament Final Fours.
Nick has coached youth soccer for upwards of ten years with various clubs in the Kansas City area. Many of his players have gone on to play in college, professionally, and even for their respective national teams.
