With the announcement of Sunflower State FC joining the USL League 2 for the upcoming 2025 season, we look back at a few of our alumni who have gone on to play professionally this past year.
First, we have Cali Schechinger who signed with Birkirkara FC in the Maltese First Division. Cali was a Sunflower State Women's original being brought in by Coach Jose Ramos who also coached her at MidAmerican Nazarene University. Cali most often occupied the outside wingback position in Coach Ramos' signature 3-4-3 formation.
Next, we move to Akolade Gbadebo who has been drafted by the Dallas Sidekicks of the MASL. Akolade played with Sunflower back in the UPSL days of the club and was a key member of the MASL 3 squad for both of Sunflower's two seasons in the league including their run to the first ever MASL 3 final. Akolade took part in the 2024 MASL Pro-player Combine and was chosen 3rd overall by the Dallas Sidekicks.
Last, but certainly not least, we have Colin Innes who has signed with Australian second division club Devonport City Strikers. Colin joined Sunflower State in our first season in the NPSL. Colin proved to be a key player for the club most notably scoring 2 last minute goals against the Springfield Demize during the 2022 NPSL season to put Sunflower into the playoffs for the first time.
Sunflower State FC continue to provide players with the opportunity to develop and chance to make it at the highest level of competition and we couldn't be prouder of our three newest pro alumni!
